Causeway Coastal Route, Northern Ireland
- Distance: About 115 miles
- Duration: 3-5 days
Rolling out from Belfast and winding its way to Derry, the Causeway Coastal Route packs an incredible amount into roughly 115 miles of tarmac. It follows the rugged Antrim coast, renowned for its ancient castles, dramatic cliffs, and natural landmarks that seem to have stepped out of a myth.
Most people come for the Giant’s Causeway, yet the smaller stops often steal the show. Harbours, coves, and quiet villages give you plenty of excuses to pull over, stretch your legs, and take in the scenery. While spectacular, some coastal roads are narrow and windy, so take extra care if you’re driving a larger motorhome.
The Atlantic Highway, Devon & Cornwall
- Distance: 70 miles
- Duration: 2.5-3 hours
The Atlantic Highway follows one of the most eye catching stretches of the South West, linking surf towns, fishing villages and bold coastal views. Following the A39 between Barnstaple and Newquay, this beautiful coastal drive has plenty of stop off options for a motorhome.
While you could drive the whole route in one go in a few hours, we recommend taking 3-5 days to really make the most of it. And be sure to try a traditional cream tea at a local cafe - North Devon produces close to a third of the UK’s cream, so you’re in the right place for the good stuff.

North Coast 500, Scotland
- Distance: About 513 miles
- Duration: 5-7 day
Probably the most famous road trip in the UK, the NC500 strings together Scotland’s standout sights into one sweeping loop. It starts and finishes in Inverness, taking you clockwise along the western, northern, and eastern coastlines.
The route is simple to follow and delivers around 500 miles of Highland beauty, with rugged scenery, glittering lochs, and castle-topped headlands. It tends to get very busy in summer, which been raising concerns recently about the impact on local communities. So, we’d recommend tackling it in late spring or early autumn when the roads are quieter. The weather can be unpredictable, but the scenery remains impressive throughout the year. Just make sure to keep the locals and the speed limits in mind as you go.
Lake District Loop, England
- Distance: About 100 miles
- Duration: 3–5 days
This scenic loop showcases the best of the Lake District, from Windermere’s lakeside bustle to the quieter charms of Grasmere, Keswick, and Coniston. You’ll pass a mix of shimmering lakes, rolling fells, and postcard ready villages, with plenty of opportunities to stop for local treats like Grasmere Gingerbread or a stroll along Ullswater’s shoreline. Make time for Castlerigg Stone Circle too, it’s one of the region’s most atmospheric viewpoints.
The Lake District’s lanes can be tight, so it’s best to avoid Hardknott and Wrynose Passes and stick to the main A-roads. Wild camping is largely prohibited, so secure your pitches early at established sites such as Castlerigg Hall or Hill of Oaks.
Canadian Rockies, Canada
- Distance: About 650 miles (loop from Calgary)
- Duration: 10–14 days
This spectacular loop through the heart of the Rockies puts you right in the heart of North America’s most dramatic alpine wilderness. Starting in Calgary, you’ll climb into the clouds to explore the world-famous trio of Banff, Jasper, and Yoho National Parks. The journey is defined by the Icefields Parkway, widely considered the most beautiful mountain drive on earth, where ancient glaciers sit right at the road’s edge.
Iconic sights include the impossible turquoise waters of Lake Louise, the thundering Takakkaw Falls, and the sprawling Columbia Icefield. For a classic Rockies moment, take the gondola up Sulphur Mountain for a 360-degree view of six mountain ranges, or soak in the Miette Hot Springs as the sun sets over the Jasper wilderness.
Campsites in these parks are in high demand, so book your spots as soon as reservations open in January. There will be plenty of grizzly bears and elk along the roadside, so remember to give them plenty of space. And don’t forget to pack bear spray and keep your food stored away at camp sites!

Yellowstone & The Wild West, USA
- Distance: About 950 miles (loop from Denver)
- Duration: 10–14 days
This epic loop through the American West is a real Wild West adventure, starting from Denver and taking you through Wyoming’s wide open landscapes, the geysers and hot springs of Yellowstone, and the dramatic peaks of Grand Teton. Stops in Cody, Jackson Hole, and Deadwood add a dose of cowboy history and frontier charm.
Iconic sights include Old Faithful, the vibrant Grand Prismatic Spring, and the Yellowstone Canyon waterfalls. For a true Western moment, join the crowds at Cody’s nightly rodeo or wander Jackson Hole’s wooden boardwalks beneath its famous elk antler arches.
Yellowstone is huge, with slow speeds and bison traffic, so allow extra driving time. For larger motorhomes, we recommend skipping the steep Beartooth Highway. And make sure all food is stored securely; the bears may look cuddly, but they absolutely shouldn’t be helping themselves to your snacks.
Route des Grandes Alpes, France
- Distance: About 425 miles
- Duration: 6–10 days
Stretching from the shores of Lake Geneva to the Mediterranean, this iconic route delivers the full alpine experience. You’ll cross 16 high passes including the Col de l’Iseran, the highest paved road in the Alps, as the scenery shifts from snowy peaks and glaciers to the warm coastal air of the Riviera. You’ll pass through Chamonix, Val d’Isère, and the sweeping views from the cols are standout moments, with Mercantour National Park offering spectacular overnight stops before you finish in Menton or Nice.
This is a serious high altitude drive, so make sure your brakes and cooling system are in excellent condition for long climbs and descents. Several passes don’t open until June due to snow, so you’re best off tacking it mid summer. While there are many Aires (dedicated motorhome stopovers), along the way, larger motorhomes should double check height and length limits on the tightest hairpins.
Southern Scenic Route, New Zealand
- Distance: About 380 miles
- Duration:4–7 days
Stretching between Dunedin and Queenstown, the Southern Scenic Route is a masterclass in New Zealand’s raw, diverse beauty. This journey takes you along the rugged coastline of The Catlins, where you’ll find windswept beaches, waterfalls, and stretches of quiet road that feel utterly remote. As you move inland, the scenery shifts towards Fiordland’s towering peaks, mirror calm lakes, and lush valleys, with Milford Sound providing one of the route’s standout moments.
Along the way, make time for Nugget Point and its lighthouse perched above jagged rock formations, or explore Curio Bay’s fossilised forest and natural hot pools. Many travellers also consider the drive from Te Anau to Milford Sound a highlight of the entire South Island, thanks to its tunnels, cliffs, and sweeping alpine vistas.
New Zealand roads are notoriously windy and often involve one lane bridges that require steady driving. We also recommend planning ahead and booking Department of Conservation (DOC) campsites, where you’ll have reliable facilities right on the edge of the wilderness.
